Unlaced by the Highland Duke by Lara Temple
Unlaced by the Highland Duke by Lara Temple sounded great, as the second book in the Lochmore Legacy Series. It was about two people I read in the previous book and I was so looking forward to this story. But, the previous book was written by another author.
It is the story of widow Joane Langdale and Benneit, Duke of Lochmore. She is asked by a relative to look after his son, Jamie. The child appears too much in the story, she tells him stories a few pages long. It’s not a bedtime storybook for children, but a romance novel. What’s the point of so many details about those stories? If the book was 50 pages shorter, without all the useless filling, it would have been much better. On top of that, the child is everywhere in the story, not even the ball is a child-free event. Also, he has endless tantrums and everybody in the family acts like this is normal. A historical novel (the story happens in early 19th century) should be a bit more complex than changing the “car” with the “carriage”.
Initially I liked both of them, Joane and Benneit, but by the page 300 I was starting to get annoyed with her. Overall I wish I didn’t read the book. I will not read another one of her books. Other authors write books in which children appear, but they are not centre-stage, just a lovely addition.

Do I understand correctly that all four books contain the same characters, focusing on different ones in each book? If so, it’s odd that different authors would pen these. It doesn’t seem there would be consistency in that.

Only this one and the first in the series have the same characters. A middle-aged couple in the first book are now the main characters in this one, when they were young. In the other two, the characters are mentioned, but they were long dead, so it works.
