Stormbringer by Philippa Gregory

Stormbringer by Philippa Gregory. The second book in the Order of Darkness series: Changeling, Stormbringer, Fools’ Gold, and Dark Tracks. It is an young adult novel, but I think it would be great as a light read for an adult on a holiday.

The story follows the adventures of Luca Vero, a member of the secret Order of Darkness, his servant Freize, Lady Isolde of Lucretili, her Muslim servant-companion Ishraq, and Brother Peter, Luca’s clerk. It can be read as a stand alone novel though. I’ve enjoyed this novel too.

Luca is tasked with searching out and reporting signs of the end of the world. They stopped in Piccolo, where some extraordinary things happen. As they were in the town, a large children’s crusade came in, led by a self-proclaimed saint. The leader is telling everybody that he will be able to lead them to Jerusalem and that the waters will part for him, allowing them to walk all the way to their destination.

Both Luca and Lady Isolde are excited by the prospect and want to join, but something strange happens. I like how Phillipa explains what happened. The story ends with them getting towards their next destination, when new adventures will take place. As the last novel, this one is not getting into fantasy and everything is explained in a scientific manner.

Details about the picture: The feathers are cruelty free. Sometimes birds that are coming in my garden to have their breakfast, lunch, and dinner shed some feathers. I collect them, to use as props for my pictures. The black one is from a magpie, the others from pigeons.
