Captured by Her Enemy Knight by Nicole Locke

I read the first 8 books in the Lovers and Legends series last year. So, when I was contacted to review Captured by Her Enemy Knight by Nicole Locke*, the 9th one in the series, I was delighted. This is the story of Eldric of Hawskmoor, a warrior knight, and Cressida Howe. I liked the book a lot, hence the 5 stars. The story relates to the previous books but it can easily be read as a stand alone novel.

The story is unusual because Cressida is the Archer, she was raised and trained to be a weapon by her father. The way she is shown and she develops through the book is realistic. She is scared both physically and mentally and it shows. He is a warrior and he acts like that, which makes him realistic and likeable.

I will not give out any spoilers, but I’m going to talk about something that happened in the book. At one point he realises that he hurt her unintentionally because he didn’t know her past and what she needed to feel safe, so it seems like he wants to say sorry but stops himself before doing that. I just loved that he didn’t apologize, that would have made the story less realistic. The plot takes place in 13th century and his attitude is what one can expect from people living at that time.

About the author: Nicole discovered her first romance novel in a closet, where her grandmother, the godmother in the romance black market, was hiding hundreds. Knowing her grandmother wouldn’t approve, Nicole hid in the closet to read them. It was only a matter of time before she was found out and given an offer she couldn’t refuse: enjoy them, but out in the living room please. Oh, and if she could go to the store and get a few more…. A few more? Nicole got two jobs.
She stopped reading romances at university, but she discovered them again when, at work, where another black market book swap occurred. Instead of swapping for another forgettable book, Nicole chose a romance (which she still reads). Now she writes romances too.

  • Wow! Nicole certainly is on a roll with this series, you are still three books behind the game!

It is really nice when an author takes the time to contact me direct for a review too, although sometimes they are not always so appreciative when I have actually taken the time and trouble to read and review. I like to deal with inclusive and interactive authors the best!

I have such a choice of books on my wish list, that I have to admit that this probably isn’t the ideal time period for me, so i might pass on adding it to my list, but I am really pleased that you are so invested in the stories.

Enjoy your Bank Holiday Monday, despite, or maybe in spite of, the weather! 🙂

    • Aww, no, this is 9th and the last one is the 10th book in this series. I never had issues with authors. I’ve talked with a couple and they were interested in the feedback I gave. I think I would be just as interested if I were them.
It rains here, so it’s the perfect weather to spend time indoors and read, so I’m not complaining. 🙂
