A Ukrainian Christmas by Yaroslav Hrytsak

A Ukrainian Christmas by Yaroslav Hrytsak and Nadiyka Gerbish is a lovely short book, with beautiful illustrations. It offers an insight into the history and traditions Ukrainians have at Christmas. It was a bit more religious than I was expecting, but it is a book about Christmas, so I gave it 5 stars nevertheless.

A Ukrainian Christmas by Yaroslav Hrytsak

This was published in 2020 in Ukraine. An English version was published last year, after russia’s full-scale invasion. Ukrainians are mostly Orthodox Christians, so I think this book would be very interesting for those not familiar with all the details on this branch of Christianity. I, as a Romanian, was raised Orthodox, but I still found it very interesting because, despite being neighbours, some traditions are different, while others are similar.

There are a few recipes in the book too, which was lovely to see. I will try one or two of these in the next few weeks or so. If you like Christmas and traditions, then this book is for you.
