Winston Churchill: In His Own Words
Winston Churchill: In His Own Words* is part of the series, Orange Hippo!. I have another book from this series and I can’t wait to start reading it, as in today.
Winston Churchill is one of the most iconic world leaders and this book is a selection of quotes by him. There are 170 quotes, in six chapters: British Bulldog, World Views, Observations, War talk, Words with bite, and Wisdom. The origin of the quotes is mentioned and that is interesting, as it puts the quote into context.
For this review, I picked three quotes from the book:
“The whole history of the world is summed up in the fact that when nations are strong, they are not always just, and when they wish to be just, they are often no longer strong.” – House of Commons, 1936.
“The power of man has grown in every sphere except over himself.” – Speech in Stockholm, 1953
“This war effort could not have been achieved if the women had not marched forward in millions and undertaken all kinds of tasks and work for which any other generation but our own… would have considered them unfitted…” – Speech at Royal Albert Hall, 1943
I hope these quotes sparked your interest. There are 167 more to read, so make sure you get the book, if you fancy reading all of them. Of course, as it is a small and cheap book, this can make for a fun gift for occasions like Secret Santa at work.

*I was sent a copy of Winston Churchill: In His Own Words for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
Good choice of quotes. They make you think, and they could make interesting discussion points for essays. I have a book The wicked wit of Winston Churchill.
These kind of books are really interesting, aren’t they? I agree that these could make interesting points for essays and exams. Some of the exam questions come as a short quote and we are asked to discuss on it. I would have liked a question like that, but I didn’t get one this time.
I just checked out Orange Hippo! and there are many books in this same format. That makes it harder for me to decide which ones to give to my friends and family. I look forward to learning what your next one is.

They are really nice, hardback books, and fun too. Next one’s topic is the Queen.
Yes! This is definitely going on my list for Christmas gifts. I can already think of three people who would probably love to get a copy. Thanks!
