The Lion and the Unicorn by George Orwell

The Lion and the Unicorn by George Orwell – Socialism and the English Genius – is a long essay on topics such as socialism and patriotism. It is a political and social statement. I am loving Orwell’s style. I enjoy reading his books and essay when I agree with what he is saying and when I disagree with what he is saying. It’s not surprising that I keep reading his work, which, at some point in the future, I might re-read.

The essay starts with his descriptions of what nationalism is and how different peoples have different cultures. It is a delight to read. As an Eastern European I fully understand what he was saying about peculiarities of cultures and it’s fantastic to read. I will not talk more about it because with such a short book it would be a shame to cover too much of it. Take it and read it, you might love it too.

I’ve decided to publish the review today because he was born on this day, in 1903. So it is the 119th anniversary of his birth.
