Read the World 04

I haven’t made an update for the Read the World challenge in 3 years. Because I read 2-3 books a year in this challenge, it’s not that urgent to update it faster. Now I am looking for new countries for this year from the grey countries on the map, so please give me suggestions if there are books in English that I can find, regardless of the subject or if they are non-fiction or fiction. I take into consideration only the country from which an author is born.

New countries, in 2023 and 2024:

Croatia – Yugoslav Volunteers in the Spanish Civil War by Vjeran Pavlakovic
Ukraine – A Message from Ukraine by Volodymyr Zelensky; Looking at Women Looking at War by Victoria Amelina
Bulgaria – Imagining the Balkans by Marii︠a︡ Nikolaeva Todorova
Latvia – Come to This Court and Cry by Linda Kinstler

  • It’s fun to see your progress on this. Off the top of my head, I can suggest Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. When I read it I thought it was going to be a basic gothic novel, but it turned out to be more horror, which is not my preferred genre. Still, I enjoyed it.

    • Thank you. I will see if I can find the book and also if I want to read it. I haven’t read horror before. I don’t like horror movies, so I’m not sure about this genre for books either.
