Approaching an Auschwitz Survivor by Jürgen Matthäus
Approaching an Auschwitz Survivor by Jürgen Matthäus – Holocaust Testimony and its Transformations – is a compilation of 5 essays on the testimony of a Holocaust survivor. Each chapter is written by an expert in Holocaust, Atina Grossmann, Konrad Kwiet, Wendy Lower, Jurgen Matthaus, and Nechama Tec. Also, each chapter is focused on one aspect of her testimony: camp life; how her testimony changed in time, over decades; postwar Jewish life; the role of survivors for classroom teaching.
Helen “Zippi” Spitzer Tichauer was sent to Auschwitz in 1942. I think it is an interesting read for non-historians and a must read for anyone interested in oral history and historians too. It is a short book, so well worth spending the time to read it and reflect on memory, how important these testimonies are. I highly recommend the book.

This sounds like a fascinating book! I think I’ll check out my options for reading it. I’m afraid as time passes, fewer people will remember (or care about) this period in history.
