The Real Pink Panther by Robert Sellers

The Real Pink Panther by Robert Sellers – Stories Behind the Classic Films – is a lovely book. I gave it 4 stars and I would recommend it to anyone who has seen at least the first Pink Panther movies. It is a rather short book, at just under 200 pages without notes and bibliography. But it has plenty of details to make it worth reading.

The Real Pink Panther by Robert Sellers

If you are not familiar with this franchise, this is a series started in 1963 with the movie The Pink Panther where Inspector Clouseau was played by Peter Sellers. Many movies followed, some better than others. The structure of the book is very clear, with each movie having its own chapter and the writing is nice.

I can’t say more about this book because it’s one of those that you want to read if you loved at least a couple of movies from the franchise. My favourites were the old ones. Reading about how they worked, the ups and downs, and the stories behind the movies was really fun.

There were times when it was a bit too much info about too many people and that is why I gave the book 4 stars. Also, I think it should have had a short description of the movies at the end of the book, where the movies are listed. I remember some movies better than others and I haven’t seen them recently, so some references were lost on me. A short description of the movies would have helped with that.

Have you seen any of the movies?

  • I remember seeing several of the movies years ago and always thought Peter Sellers was so funny as Inspector Clouseau. Why was I thinking the first movie was titled “A Shot in the Dark”? Of course the first thing that always comes to my mind is the theme music. It will be running through my head the rest of the day!

    • The music is so good, you can’t forget it. Peter Sellers was great. I think you would like this book, as you’ve seen the movies.
