The Christmas secret by Karen Swan

There is a funny story on how I picked the book I am reviewing today, The Christmas secret by Karen Swan. Back in 2020, a picked a random book from the library, The Christmas Party by Karen Swan, see my review for it here. I mentioned back then that “I will not read another book by her”. This month I was picking a book which I reserved at the library and got 2 more random Christmas themed books. One of them was the one I am reviewing today. I completely forgot that I was annoyed by Swan’s characters. I have to say that this one was much better, almost a 5 stars. The ending was too complicated and unrealistic, hence the knocking off of a star. From the 480 pages this book has, the first ~450 were good, but the last ones, with the conclusion, were a bit too complicated to work for me.

The story has a lot of interesting aspects. Alex Hyde is a strong woman who is a business coach. She was hired by the company’s board to help the CEO of Kentallen Distilleries, Lochlan Farqhuar. He is reluctant to accept her help. The story takes place on a Scottish island, where the whisky company is located. This means that she is temporarily moving to the island.
I liked the details on how the whisky is produced and how a distillery works, which were naturally presented. I liked most of the characters, all seemed natural and realistic. I recommend the book.

    • If you find a book, I hope you will like it. After reading this one, I might get another one of hers. Maybe next Christmas, I will pick up another random book from the library’s display.
