Murder in the Mews by Agatha Christie
Murder in the Mews by Agatha Christie is a compilation of 4 novellas with Hercule Poirot. I liked some better than others, hence my 4 star rating, an average of the 4 individual ratings. The four novellas are: Murder in the Mews, The Incredible Theft, Dead Man’s Mirror, and Triangle at Rhodes. I will say a few words about each one.

I liked Murder in the Mews a lot, very unusual and interesting solving of the mystery. It is about a woman who was holding a pistol in her right hand and with it managed to shoot herself in the left temple. I am surprised by how inventive Agatha Christie was in her mysteries. This was a 5 stars novella.
The second one, The Incredible Theft, is, as the name suggests, about a theft. I didn’t find this one as engaging as the rest. I would give 3 stars to this novella.
In the third one, Dead Man’s Mirror, Poirot had to explain how the bullet that killed Sir Gervase shatter a mirror in another part of the room. The ending had an interesting explanation, another 5 stars in this compilation.
Triangle at Rhodes was the shortest of all, at 30 pages, and that showed. It was a love triangle. I thought the explanation was rushed and not very persuasive. It was a 3 stars in the end.

About the author: Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay, Devon, as the youngest of three. Before marrying and starting a family in London, she had served in a Devon hospital during the First World War, tending to troops coming back from the trenches. During the First World War, she worked at a hospital as a nurse; later working at a hospital pharmacy, a job that influenced her work, as many of the murders in her books are carried out with poison. During the Second World War, she worked as a pharmacy assistant at University College Hospital, London, acquiring a good knowledge of poisons which feature in many of her novels.
Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, came out in 1920. During her first marriage, Agatha published six novels, a collection of short stories, and a number of short stories in magazines. In 1930, Christie married archaeologist Max Mallowan (Sir Max from 1968) after joining him in an archaeological dig. Their marriage was especially happy in the early years and remained so until Christie’s death in 1976.

I don’t think I’ve heard of any of these stories. I’m always up to try an Agatha Christie, so if I see this collection at my digital library, I’ll add it to my wish list.

I really liked the first one, Murder in the Mews. I hope you find it because it’s not too long and has an interesting solution.
