Delicioasa poveste a cozonacului românesc by Tatiana Niculescu Bran
Delicioasa poveste a cozonacului românesc by Tatiana Niculescu Bran is one of the books I got while in Romania. It was an impulse purchase and I am glad I got it. It is in Romanian, so this is going to be a very short review for this reason. Delicioasa poveste a cozonacului românesc is translated as Delicious story of the Romanian cozonac. Cozonac is a sweet loaf made in Romania for special occasions. It is made at Christmas and Easter, at funerals and for weddings, including as Turta Miresei [Bride’s Cake], a large round loaf decorated with leaves and flowers made out of dough, which is shared with the guests.

The book covers the long history of the cozonac, starting with what might have been the first iterations of cozonac, depending on how you describe it and how it was named throughout the centuries. I found that fascinating. I liked that she included recipes or part of recipes in the book, as they were described in historical documents, short, just to understand the differences between them. I enjoyed this book a lot and the only reason I gave it 4 stars is that some of the words used were not commonly used in Romanian, but more akin to those used in storytelling. I would have preferred a more standard approach of writing non-fiction.
